Cultivating aliveness in every moment…

Ann T. Augustine, LICSW

“Without inner change, there can be no outer change. Without collective change, no change matters.” - Rev. angel Kyodo williams

Deep and lasting change requires we be present - this is where our power lies. As Viktor Frankl wrote, “Between the stimulus and response, there is a space. And in that space lies our freedom and our power to choose our responses. In our responses lies our growth and our freedom.”

Finding this space is not easy. We live in a society that pushes us to move faster, produce more, override our natural wisdom. Caught up in this turbulence, we can feel confused and powerless… we lose our way, we get unrooted. It requires deep courage - and support - to see and stay with what is actually happening, feel what we actually feel, and take action towards what matters most. This is true as individuals and collectively.

I am committed to supporting others find the space and the motivation to embody change at all levels - in ourselves, in our relationships, in our organizations, and in our world.

Therapy

Therapy helps resolve our painful pasts, freeing us to live more fully. For over 25 years, I have supported individuals, couples, and teens/parents heal and create lasting change. My practice is grounded in relational theory and weaves in somatic practices, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and mindfulness-based theories including Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Areas of specialization: Anxiety/Trauma, Relationship Issues, Body/Eating/Wellness, Work/Life Balance, BIPOC/Identity and Adoption/Transracial Adoption.

Supervision, Consultation, and Training for Therapists

As psychotherapists, we need on-going support to remain engaged and inspired. I am certified in advanced clinical supervision and have over 15 years experience offering supervision and consultation to therapists in all stages of clinical development. I am an experienced facilitator and trainer and have provided clinical trainings in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Trauma-Informed Substance Use Treatment since 2012. I support therapists with many treatment issues including: clinical impasse/helping clients get unstuck, integrating substance use theory into practice, and working with identity from a social justice frame.

Organizational Consulting

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability.” With over 30 years experience in multiple private and public organizations, I agree. Change can be difficult. Maintaining the status quo is easier - as individuals and as organizations. Motivating and inspiring change is my passion and my wheelhouse. In addition to a Masters in Social Work, I have a Masters in Public Policy with a focus on nonprofit/public administration and over 15 years experience as a supervisor, manager and administrator. Because organizations are groups of individuals, I also incorporate motivational theory, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and insights from my work as a practicing psychotherapist. I am available to train staff/leaders, facilitate challenging conversations, offer workshops on topics related to areas of expertise, and provide ongoing consultation to support organizational change.

Embodied Change

We deeply want change… not just individual change, but collective change. All around us we see the world in crisis - economic and racial injustice, environmental collapse, violence and war. And yet, in the busyness of our lives, it can be so easy to tune out and numb ourselves. Sometimes we go to the other extreme, overwhelmed by our sense of threat and horror, we become overly activated, unable to rest or contribute effectively. Mindful awareness and somatic practices along with motivational theories support us to find our way towards the needed change - as individuals and as a collective. I offer individual and relationship coaching, as well as weekly classes and workshops in learning to stay present, find ground, and take valued-based action. Additionally, I work individuals and groups to resolve conflicts through conscious dialogue rooted in the tenets of NVC and mindfulness.
